December 2003

Amtrak Operations-Keystone Service

Sunday December 14, 2003 had produced 2 or 3 inches of slushy snow. Our daughter needed to be back in Philadelphia that evening. Instead of driving in the slush, she road train 612, departing Harrisburg at 1 PM. A fair crowd was riding this afternoon. After helping her with her bags and seeing her on board, I went back to my vehicle to get a few photographs. Here is engine 129 and the consist about ready to depart.

20 minutes ago, the ticket window had a big line.

Amtrak workers have all passenger aboard and have made the last call.

The train left right on time. In 2 hours and 10 minutes, my daughter called. She had arrived at 30th Street Station, caught a cab and was back in her warm apartment. Sweet! No tolls or gasoline, Surekill Expressway and boring trip back the turnpike. All for twenty bucks. The good old days of rail travel lives!

Oh yes, I had to take a shot of this.
